Meaning to learn more about Pilates? Pilates exercise was first created by a physician trainer, Joseph Pilates, in 1920s, which focuses on improving flexibility, strength and body awareness without necessarily building bulk.
Its method is a series of controlled movements performed on specially designed spring-resistant exercise apparatus like the reformer, the Cadillac, the spine corrector and the Wunda chair. It has two key elements; core muscle strength and spine alignment. Core musculature is defined as the abdomen, spine, pelvis, hips and the muscles that support these structures. While the core muscles are the erector spinae, the internal and external obliques and the traverse abdominis. Breathing and concentration on the muscles of contraction is also part of its key element. Its objective is to coordinate mind, body and spirit together. This philosophy is called contrology.
