The New York Times has an article about a new breed of durian, an equatorial and tropical fruit surrounded by folklore that is famous for its pungent smell and uber-creamy texture. The breeders of the new variety have apparently succeeded in toning down its distinctive aroma. Once you get used to the old-style durian, it's delicious. Is this another attempt to make the world smell blander?
