George at Asda to promote homegrown fashion

ADVERTISEMENTS

George At Asda is looking to foster local sourcing in fashion with the launch of Made in the UK a clothing line that will be produced exclusively in the UK. The retailer is hoping to promote home-grown talent as well as encourage local industry, avoiding the ’sweat shop’ concerns associated with many of the cheaper fashion brands. “There’s a huge talent base in the UK and we believe customers will want to buy British clothes in the same way they want to buy locally produced foods grown and prepared in Britain,” said ASDA clothing boss Angela Spindler.

Asda will also introduce a Dragon’s Den style system that will enable UK clothing manufacturers the opportunity to present their ideas and designs to a panel of ASDA buyers. ‘Made in the UK’ clothing will be distinguished by a Union Jack label with further plans to place country of origin labels on all of its items. That’s great news for ASDA and even better news for local businesses!
