Well I have red hair and I always hated it mostly cuz people make fun of me for it, but in all honesty red hair is beautiful and I'm lucky to have it, even tho idk how I do I'm the only one in my family to which is awkward, anyways why do redheads get so much stuff about it when brunette hair is the color of poop like I don't get it people are definitely jealous when they make fun of it it's gorgeous and I'm happy to have it
I\'ve always loved my hair. It\'s my security blanket. Realistically though, I wonder. My temper, passion, conniving, high pain tolerance, etc., is it a mysterious connection between hair follicle, body & soul? Or is it the result of my survival instinct from childhood redhead torment. I had a great childhood! But let\'s be honest, there\'s not a redhead around that hasn\'t heard at least 1 of the tired old sayings. Even at 6\', (6\' in heels), I still hear them and I am completely....anesthetized to them.
I have been a natural red head my entire life, I have an aunt who has red hair as well as my mom. I have never in my entire life been stung by bee's and my other family member with red hair have only ever been stung once. As for the tempers ill admit I have one crazy one that much is absolutely true. Most of these other comments just make people look like complete idiots. Red hair does not mean your more likely to be allergic to strawberries and iodine.. I am also a nurse and have never found this to be anything close to the truth nor do we react to shellfish more....I mean I'm not saying that there aren't red heads with these problems but there are also brunettes and blonde also it isn't a hair color factor. Natural red hairs are so rare and I personally love it I don't consider myself unlucky by any means
I've heard the myth that says that gingers don't have souls, the one that says that we take others souls, the one that says that we earn a freckle every time we steal a soul, what is up with the soul thing? Seriously!
I don't really tan, but I have noticed that everytime my skin gets even a little bit darker it lasts for a long time
Richard
@Mia Mbati, The Gaels sacked Delphi in something like 700 b.c. The word "Keltoi" is the Greek word for the Gaelic people, so at very least, they knew of redheaded people and were probably not fond of them.
And the Greeks were originally an Aryan people as well, so there may have been redheads among them in ancient times. I believe Helen of Troy is described as blonde. Greece has had a lot of additions to their gene-pool since then.
Phillip
Many redheads are allergic to strawberries and iodine. They should be careful having any examination that requires them to have ionic medications. Now days most medicines are non-ionic to reduce the life threatening effects of a reaction a person could have with a medicine that has iodine in its formula. Redheads seem to be more sensitive to them. They also react to shellfish more than others, as well.
James
nothing or noone compares to a ginger
JJ
I'm no expert, but I in my experience, the temper myth comes from the lot of Irish Lasses with red hair as we all know we Irish are famous for our tempers!
likeit1
My wife is a redhead and now I know why she kept biting my neck
c
Why are the women in the pictures with this story all fake redheads?
Dawn
I only see 2...not 7 myths.
Heather
Oh wow! That's so crazy! :) I was a redhead (not natural of course!) for 10 years -- I miss the red hair!
Hugh
A statistic I read a couple of years ago noted that Ireland & Scotland are 13% redheads. My father who grew up in Ireland & lived in Scotland had a saying that if you met a redheaded woman on your way to work you're best off going back home for the day since otherwise you'll have nothing but bad luck for the day.
Red
Typos. "More often than..."
And speaking as a real live redhead, why are all the red haired women in the photos red from a bottle?
John
That makes a LOT of sense when you think about it.

Red head here- fiery temper, check. Need more anesthetic, check. Severe hemeraging with my kids births, check. High pain tolerance, check. (Seriously!) I am loving the no gray hair one... I have a looong time to go to worry about it but still, good to know. ;)
Scott

Myths that we dont have souls, and that our hair is a hotter temperature than other people's hair
CassandraMarie
@Anonymous, As a redhead, I most definitely do NOT tan. I burn in strong moonlight and even thinking about sunshine. However, one thing I have noticed is some burns never completely fade away. I had a pretty bad sunburn 4 months ago and while of course I'm no longer lobster red, there's definitely a definition of pink versus white where the collar of my shirt was. I've come across something that mentioned deeper capillary damage is part of the risk of UV exposure, so perhaps that's it?
Linda
I guess that is why I have always been so deathly afraid of bees, since as I child I was always told that the bees were more attracted to me. I guess I believed it, and I think it is true.
Linda
@Anonymous, I have had sunburns before that then become tan. One time I burned so bad on my back, and you could actually see the tan still for like 2 years, it was so weird.
Ariel
Everyone I know and meet tells me I have no souls/steal souls/my freckles are stolen souls. I blame the Southpark episode. I agree about the fiery temper. And needing more pain killers. Our fare skin tone has something to do with it. And it's not just us reds, doctors have found it to be true for fare skinned people in general. I want to go golden when I age. I'm too white to have blonde or white hair! ha
Jelena
LOL, now that you've mentioned it, Mia, I don't remember ever seeing a natural redhead either. Blondes yes but redheads never :D Maybe that's what's caused the myth in the first place! I mean, I can totally picture ancient conquerors getting all kinds of ideas when faced with something interesting and unseen before.
Mia
I'm Greek and i can assure you that this is not an ancient Greek myth.In ancient Greece there were no redhairs even now it's pretty rare.I'm 25 and i have never met a natural redhair.
redhead
this is Ivana Benko from Croatia... beautiful redhead pin up girl :)
Stephanie
The only one I've ever heard of is that redheads have a fiery temper. The other myths I was surprised to learn about (and a few of them made me laugh aloud!).
Lyndsie
This is entirely OT, but ouch! I feel for you! That's awful enough without waking up in the middle, I'm so sorry!
Meg
I'm no ginger, since I have natural auburn hair. But there have been studies about redheads needing more anesthetic than others during most operations because it just isn't as effective. While I was having all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed, I woke up in the middle of the procedure; not only was it super traumatic, but I think that it just goes to prove this point.

Redheads have to soul
Anonymous
Lol, your foundation thing sounds like my problem. I've NEVER found one light enough.... I actually use BABY POWDER instead! My cousin laughs at me.... lol. i just tell her i will steal her soul. xD
Emma
As a strawberry blonde, I get called ginger a little too often... Probably due to the fact that I get angry so easily.... And I'm the only strawberry-blonde in my family! The rest are red heads! (Aside from my mother who's a brunette.)
Raz
i heard another myth, that if the roof is rusty, the basment is wet. :P (not that i think its true or anything..)
Kim
Yep, I started to get WHITE hairs when I was 21 or 22. My maternal grandmother has snow white hair without a trace of grey. I swear that the white hairs are wavier and that they grow faster compared to the rest of my hair.
Anonymous
I have naturally red hair and I find that the fiery temper is true. If I'm not in a good mood my friends know to stay away lol! After that on south park episode I was getting so much garbage about my hair colour I just completely burst! After that I knew they wouldn't bother me again. And about red heads not going grey it's not completely true. My grandmother ( also a natural red head) went completely platinum blonde. But my mother started going grey. Before I go to bed I just want to say to my fellow red heads that your hair is beautiful! Don't let other people make you believe differently!
Lyndsie
I really, really don't think so -- but I could be biased, because I think strawberry blond hair is GORGEOUS! I've always seen "ginger" to refer to that really pale, apricot shade or flaming orange/red. Strawberry shades are so bright and golden, just tell people you're way more "strawberry"! :D
Anonymous
I have red hair and at 38 am getting grey hair. I have noticed that bees and wasps seem to be attracted to me, I never thought of them being attracted to the red, but that makes sense since it is the color of the flowers they like best. I usually burn rather than tan. I did get stung by a wasp during church once, and by a bee at school.
Anonymous
I have strawberry blonde hair. Am I still considered a "ginger"?
Maddi
I heard that if you are around a red head you are safe and that they give you luck. I have had my friend for 4 years and I love her haha xD
Anonymous
I don't care what the myths are, I love red hair and wish I had naturally red hair! I can believe the bee sting myth, since I've been dyeing my hair red since November last year, I have bees flying after me all the time!
Anonymous
Nope, in almost all cases the mother is awake and just given strong medication, so she can meet her little one right away! :) They just can't see the cuts being made because of a divider sheet.
Anonymous
The same was true for me when I had to have a broken arm set! I was only 12 and they had to give me 2 adult doses before I was really out... That is so interesting!
Anonymous
I used to get extremely tan, moreso than some of my brunette and blonde friends, but it seems these days that my tan resorts back to normal paleness faster than it should.
Sheila
Hahahah. Your poor sister! :)
Thanks for reading :)
Anonymous
hahahahaha! We like to just say that my sister just steals the souls of us and all we are close to! Then we call them corrupted! So much fun with redheads!
Anonymous
My sister, a ginger, doesn't have a fiery temper! She's a cool as water! Not so much as a spark from her!
Anonymous
My sister (a red head, obviously!) doesn't tan at ALL she burns and turns as red as a lobster1
Lyndsie
LOL!! I've never heard of rubbing a redhead's head for luck! Do you think it works?!
Anonymous
redhead here. Never been stung....
Anonymous
Im a natural red head and every time i go outside, there is almost always a bee flying around near me. However, i have never actually been stung. I think they are just attracted to the color. And i agree that we do get in pain a whole lot easier than others. And i do believe that redheads have the worst of allergies too.
Anonymous
@Gabs, Huh, maybe this is why I was in so much pain during labor despite having the epidural... I think people thought I was crazy, but I felt everything :/
Anonymous
I am a natural redhead and i love being one! Like it says there arent alot of us, but it makes us unique!! I also have alot of people rub my head for good luck!
Sheila
57 and still no greys? :O I'm so jealous! :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Anonymous
I'm 57 and my hair is still auburn, but I'm starting to notice some scattered white or silver hairs.

me too!

I think the anesthetic thing is true. It always takes 2 needles to block the pain for me at the dentist. Also, I had the same issue with bleeding more than usual after delivery of my first daughter, and the nurses commented "oh great - she's a redhead; she's a bleeder" (news to me!) on the way into the delivery room! They used double oxytocin prior to delivery for my second child, and managed to keep it under control!
As for the hair, I'm a hairdresser, and I have yet to see a natural redhead with dark gray hair (unless they went more of a brunette somewhere in their life). Most do what has been mentioned before - it fades, goes mostly blonde or light strawberry blonde, and ends up white (sometimes with a light pinkish shade). I can usually tell when a senior has had red hair in his/her life, as there is often evidence of it even into their 80's.
Anonymous
Me too! I'm 14 and have had blonde and grey hairs for a long time!my friends find it amusing but I don't!:/
Lyndsie
I've honestly seen both -- redheads who go more strawberry blond, and those who go more toward grey.
Anonymous
That's not true about the "red heads don't go grey" thing....I'm a nurse who works in aged care and we have 3 old people in our facility who are natural very red heads gone very grey.
Anonymous
i am a red head and the bee thing is TOTALLY true.
Anonymous
I agree with others... The anesthetic thing is true. Probably a big reason I hate the dentist- my old one thought i was lying about being in pain. I don't remember ever being stung by a bee, though... And I certainly don't have a bad temper.
Anonymous
I am a natural born redhead and I've never been stung by a bee! Haha, but it is true that we need more anesthetic is true! They teach it in my high school's AP Biology class!
Anonymous
Me too. Huh......I was prepped, etc. but when the doctor started to cut and I said, "OW!" he ended up putting me under.
Anonymous
Being a redhead myself, my brother kindly informed me that I have no soul. HAHA oh goodness and some of these myths i have found true. especially the one about going grey! A family member of mine did not start to fade until she was 80! and then went to this beautiful w
Anonymous
Bees are attracted to the red color, I believe.
Anonymous
Haha oh having a fiery temper is no myth! Angering a redhead is NOT a good idea, as anyone who has angered me has learned ;)
Lyndsie
Hey, thanks for commenting! Some myths are nonsense, that's true -- but that's why they're "myths," not "facts," you know? I think the world would be a pretty boring place without myths! ;)
Anonymous
I'm from Greece (and redhead) but I never heard something so ridiculous like the mentioned myth above! Ancient Greeks existed many centuries before the vampires and the original vampire myth was started in Romania. There is no connection between vampires and ancient Greeks.. For God's sake, please read some history and don't publish inexactness.
Anonymous
I'm a natural redhead that has Never been stung by a bee!
Emma
the only thing that surprised me about the greek redhead-into-vampire myth is that there were redheads in greece!
i think if bees sting us redheads more often, it's because they really only see blobs of color, and mistake the red tones for flowers. just a theory, though.
also, along with temper and high libido, redheads have also been assumed to be crazy. excuse me, that's not english enough: we're supposed to be 'mad'. lol
and one of the redheads i know didn't go blonde, her hair actually got darker. go figure.
Beautyindia
These myths are just nonsense and ridiculous..........vampires are only in the books and movies.
Anonymous
I'm a redhead and I do have the fiery temper and believe the anesthetic theory.... but I have never been stung by a bee in the 19 yrs. i've lived! lol I do seem to attract them though... my mom always said its 'cause my red hair looks like a beautiful flower.
Anonymous
I have a very dark red, like chestnut. It looks fiery in the sun but indoors people think I'm brunette. But I am Irish and definitely have that fiery temper. No gray hair though I'm nearing 50 and I've never dyed it. I can't say the anesthesia is true. I'm a lightweight and easily subdued by the mildest sedatives!
Anonymous
That just might be a fair skin thing. I'm a brunette with fair skin but when I manage to get tan it lasts a very long time. My tan from last summer never completely faded away.
Anonymous
It was recently discovered-and scientifically proven-that redheads have a higher pain tolerance. Maybe that's why I need more anesthetic at the dentist! :)
Sheila
Nice to know :)
Thanks for reading!
Sheila
Hey Sam,
Interesting, very interesting. I wonder who came up with these. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Sheila
Hello Linda!
There really are some strange myths about redheads out there, huh? :)
Thanks for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment!
Linda
My red hair has gone on many changes. When I was young it was red as I became a teen it changed to a orange copper color then by the time I was about 17 it went back to my dark red, After I had my kids it went from thick to thinner and the color lightened. Now that I'm 60 It has been going to white not gray. I also have to have double the pain meds to knock out the pain. I also have a problem with lots of meds acting on strange, don't know if thats a red thing. I don't have a temper but people try to see how far they can push before I show my attitude. I like this sight cause Ive never read so much from other red heads, lol.
Sam
I'm a red head and I've only ever been bee stung once. I believe the having fiery tempers thing, because myself and a friend of mine both natural gingers have very bad tempers. And I'm sure we have ALL heard the "gingers have no souls" myth...
Anonymous
I have been stung by a bee literally only one time in my life so I don't believe that what so ever. The temper and the libedo however.... I'd say is true.
Anonymous
I use to be strawberry blonde then went red and now my roots are coming in brown.
Anonymous
I'm a redhead and bees like me- never been stung! It's a family thing- apparently my grandmother used to hang out on top of the bee boxes at her family's farm and taunt the German soldiers during WWII and none of the bees ever stung her- I have inherited the same gift. I can hold a bee in my hand, and it will not sting me! And as for anesthetic- I'm a lightweight there too!! Takes me forever to come out of it!
Lyndsie
It's hard to find pictures of natural redheads these days! So many girls who are natural redheads don't seem to want photos posted of their hair, so you end up with trendy dyed colors like Twilight Ravishing Red or something! :P
Anonymous
i love how none of the people in these pictures are natural redheads lol
Anonymous
c-sections are generally done with a simple epidural and a sheet placed in the middle. so that the mother can see her newborn child as soon as he or she arrives.
Anonymous
My bf is also 25 and a redhead. Although he keeps his hair shaved close to his head, you can see where his is turning dark grey
Lyndsie
LOL! 'cause that's MEAN! :D And only occasionally true.
Kidding, kidding!
