i visited florence last summer and honestly, there’s no reason to go unless you’re absolutely ga-ga over art. the only thing to do is visit museums. the town itself is pretty unimpressive compared to other european cities. definitely a let down for me as it followed my visit to venice, which is absolutely impressive. i’m not saying i don’t appreciate art, but when you backpack through europe for a month, you need a little bit more than just art. also, none of the museums in florence give student discounts to foreigners, only EU citizens. and everything is more expensive than venice or even rome!
I havent been in Rome but I wish to be there on my honeymoon. Ive seen it in pictures and movies and Im sure it would really be romantic exploring the place with your loved one.
I always dream of going to Paris. It is so romantic and I love the sceneries. Id love to go to Milan too!

Rome and Paris are def two places I want to visit sometime in my life! :)
Number 4 is amazing, we are touring europe this year (’09) and after seeing this post we want to add your ticino to our list. however ticino is more a state than a town.
where exactly is this place you have written about?
regards.
Hey, I just want an opinion. I’m 15, my name is Cody I’m going with my friend to Europe, we haven’t really decided where, we want to book in the next 2 weeks. Where do you think the best place for us a go would be? We would be going for 3 weeks. We would go to 3 major cities for a week each. I was thinking Paris, London and Rome. But I’ve heard things about Milan and Venice to. Please help! Thanks.
Wow, Cody, you’re lucky to be visiting Europe at your age!
Your idea seems ideal. If you want to sneak in a peek at Milan and Venice, you can do that during the week you’re in Italy. But if you think you would be pressed for time, you can always go to Milan and Venice the next time you travel. It’s not a good idea to want to see as many places as you like because you might miss good spots or your trip might be too rushed to be unforgettable. The important thing is to take in and enjoy everything at a leisurely pace. :)
Alright, thanks alot!
I am going to Europe for 4 weeks in July 2009 w/husband and 7 year old daugher. We have London, Paris, Amsterdaam, Rome and Venice planned. Are there any other must sees?????
Katkool, the other amazing places mentioned here would be perfect, too. Enjoy your holiday! :)
I am 19 Years old and have been to Europe a few time once last march for about a month alone and then a few years ago with my family most recently.
I think if your looking to go to some beautiful places in Europe I would recommend Barcelona in Spain , Trier in Germany, and Galway in Ireland. I have been to all of the above.
My favorite pick would be by far Barcelona for any type of european trip. It has all sorts of activities for anyone traveling whether you are a young traveling adventurist or a family going on a relaxing vacation.
I recommend Trier first because Germany is beautiful, and second because it is VERY family friendly, plus if your not a native most everyone speaks English so you don’t really have to worry about language barriers. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany and features beautiful historical monuments and museums in addition to wonderful surrounding areas, great food and atmosphere, and fabulous people. I would also recommend checking out the wineries along the Mosel river. they have some of the best wines around :)
Last but not least Galway. I found Galway on my last day in Ireland (I was orginally staying in Dublin) and took the train across to the other side. I fell in love. The beautiful cobbled winding allys and old world charm, blended with beautiful history and views in addition to wonderful places to visit, eat, drink, shop, as well as explore make Galway also one of my FAV picks. The Cliffs of Moher are a must see in addition to the Spanish Arch.
I hope my insight might help anyone looking to take a trip across the pond and explore someplace new! If you want more info on different places feel free to email me at caelumignis@gmail.com
Wow!
Thanks Katherine!
It was extremely interesting to read.
hello
i live in dublin
Hi ,
My husband and I are planning a 10 day trip to Europe.
This part of the world has so much to offer and we have so little time.
Pls recommend top 4 places to visit.
We were thinking of London, Paris, swtzerland.
Thanks
Pri,
If I could afford a trip to Europe, I would definitely go to London, Paris probably Tuscany (only because it looked SO lovely in that movie, Under the Tuscan Sun) and any of the Greek islands. I used to write for a Greek travel website and I was so taken aback by the beauty, the culture, the food! Yeah! I would definitely pick Greece.
