Bad news for those with a hopeless sweet tooth! Experts are saying that there may come a time that chocolate will be like caviar… people will need to shell out lots of moolah just for a taste! This is because cocoa trees are slowly becoming affected by poor biodiversity measures… from slowly balding rain forests to dehydrated soil, a lot of factors are affecting the production of cocoa and chocolate lovers are set to see the effects soon! Hopefully this won’t be too much a problem because I am set on hoarding all these sweet treats! Does anybody know where I can look for a huge refrigerator for me to store my chocolates?
Yields are declining all across the cocoa plantations of West Africa, particularly in Ghana, where Cadbury sources 100 percent of their chocolate supply. While at the moment there is still higher short term yield, the soil has reportedly become degraded and the lifespan of plants are cut from 75 or 100 years, to 30 or less.
This only means one thing, people! Let’s store up on the choco PRONTO!
