Top 10 Things To See and Do at the Smoky Mountains

Top 10 Things To See and Do at the Smoky Mountains

I love to travel with my family. In my opinion, it is important to take your children out to see as much of the world as possible. Of all of the places we have been, however, my family's favorite vacation destination remains the Great Smoky Mountains. In fact, it is the only vacation spot we have returned to time and again. So far, we have been there a total of three times as a family, and these are some of our favorite sites to see.

A Sunny Day at the Vatican

A Sunny Day at the Vatican

I’m bringing you another photo from my trip to Italy, this one of Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.

I’m in Tuscany now, and hope to share some additional photos from my week here at a farmhouse.

My First View of Rome

My First View of Rome

Rome has been wonderful so far, and I regret that my time here was so short.  Everywhere you turn there is such a sense of history and wonder.

My first real impression of the city was coming up from the subway (Colosseo stop) and finding this in front of you.  It literally took my breath away!  Seeing it in books and photos cannot do justice to the sense of awe I felt at seeing this piece of the ...

Manhattan Skyline Features Well Known Architecture

Manhattan Skyline Features Well Known Architecture

The Manhattan skyline is one of the most recognizable in the world.  Whether view from an airplane as you are flying in, from Central Park, the top of the Empire State Building, or from a downtown ferry, the New York architecture is some of the most photographed around.

This photo was taken while on a ferry ride out to see the Statue of Liberty.

Sit for a Spell and Look at the View

Sit for a Spell and Look at the View

It’s nice to see that hotels are giving thought to how to best use space that might otherwise be unused, giving guests additional way to enjoy the hotel and resort.

A recent stay at a beach resort property had this lovely feature — couches in the alcoves that overlooked the ocean.  You could sit and have a drink and watch the sun go down.  Sit there with a morning cup of coffee and plan your day.  Or just meet ...

Underwater Photo from the South China Sea

Underwater Photo from the South China Sea

Ken, our blogger over at The Vancouver Traveler, has been doing some traveling in southeast Asia and has sent me a few photos from his journey.  Ken has been doing lots of diving, and this photo is from one of his dives in the South China Sea off the coast of Cambodia.

This friendly looking guy is a cuttle fish that Ken ran into him in about six meters of water.

Ground Hog Day 2008 More Winter to Come

Ground Hog Day 2008 More Winter to Come

At sunrise this morning, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a furry little critter by the name of Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow.

Amid much hoopla and fanfare, this proclamation was read:

As I look around me, a bright sky I see, and a shadow beside me.
Six more weeks of winter it will be!

That’s right — six more weeks of winter.  Thanks a lot, Phil!  I’m ready for spring!

Indian Vacation

India! The birthplace of the oldest civilization. The land of the mystical Taj Mahal and the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. The land where ancient history meets the future on the highways and the narrow byways. Do you need a reason to come to India? We think not. JG4B swimwear will turn heads on your winter vacation

Even though it is November, after all, for some reason, it feels like summer just ended; maybe it was the weather in southern California that screwed us up. Nevertheless, it's fall, but that doesn't mean swimsuit season is over. With the December and January coming up, we start planning our winter vacations to sunny, tropical paradises! Now since you just can't be seen wearing the same five bikinis you were wearing all summer ...

Kentucky: The 15th State

Kentucky: The 15th State

Today is Admission Day for Kentucky, the 15th state, admitted to the Union on June 1st, 1792.

The first time I was in Kentucky, I thought I was in Ohio.

If you’ve been to the Cincinnati airport (airport code CVG), you know what I’m talking about. The Cincinnati airport, which I foolishly believed was in Cincinnati, Ohio is actually located 13 miles south of that city. Not in Cincinnati (which I could understand), but not even in ...

Go By GoCar

Go By GoCar

I’ve toured a city by car, bus, train, moped, bicycle, motorcycle, scooter, and on foot.  Each mode of touring offers different options and varying perspectives on a city.

Travelers in San Francisco and San Diego now have an additional choice on how to see the city — a GoCar.  The GoCar is a talking 3-wheeled vehicle that gives directions and tour commentary as you see the sights of the city.  And it speaks five different ...

10 Foolish & Foolhardy Travel Tips

In honor of April Fools Day, here’s a list of foolish and foolhardy actions that are a foolproof way to make getting through airport security as painfully slow as possible:

  1. Wear metal studded pants.  You can’t take them off and put them through the metal detector, so they’re going to have to wand you.  What were you thinking?
  2. Leave liquids in your carry on bags.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you should know about the security directive limiting liquids and ...
