Oscar winner, Marion Cotillard wore this mermaid-esqe Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2008 Couture gown to the Oscars on Sunday night, which appeared on many Best Dressed list including mine.
Only she could pulled off this amazing mermaid-style gown, which was custom-made for her. Thank god she did not choose the runway version, as I don't think it would have made the same impact.
It’s was the second red-carpet event in a fortnight that not only did Marion Cotillard win ...

Without the Vanity Fair party, the only real party that brought out the stars was Elton John's Annual AIDS Foundation Party.
Unfortunately the likes of Katie Holmes, Kate Hudson, Uma Thurman did not attend and most of those celebrities who walked the red carpet wore the same dress to the parties, so there was not the opportunity to see them in a second set of dresses.
Ziyi Zhang was by far the best dressed at this event wearing a ruffled electric ...

With the exception of Marion Cotillard’s, Jean Paul Gaultier mermaid gown, complete with flaking fish scales and tail (although the dress was a bit too “theme-y”, it was nice to see someone take risks on the red carpet) nearly every leading lady dressed in the classic hues - black and red…feathers, one shoulder, and Grecian-inspired gowns were also big, and simple silhouettes served as a canvas for dripping displays of diamonds.

If you are a size 2 and you loved Heidi Klum's red silk, one of a kind Dior by John Galliano dress as much as I did, then it could be yours.
Her dress is up for auction at mycokerewards.com to benefit The Heart Truth campaign, who raise awareness of women's heart health.

Black and red appeared to be the popular colour of choice last night at the Oscars, which made for a lack lustre red carpet. But rather than focus on what the majority were wearing, let’s throw the spotlight on the outfits that, for better or worse, did make an impact.
The award for the most unusual outfit of the evening went to Marion Cotillard (pictured above), who sparkled in a figure hugging mermaid like, Jean Paul Gaultier frock.

It was great to see lots of colour at this years Oscars.
Red was a surprising choice with many celebrities, which was great to see as that meant the ladies were willing to stand out and take a risk with this bold colour.
I guess they took their inspiration from Nicole Kidman's Balenciaga dress from last years Oscars.
All these woman look fantastic in shades varying from scarlet, to vermillion to crimson and Ruby.

Whilst most of the ladies wearing one-shouldered gowns rested on their right hand shoulders, Hilary Swanks dress stood out amongst the trend by resting on her left shoulder.
Diane Lane, Anne Hathaway and Hilary Swanks gowns were all beautiful embellished with beads and rosettes.

Black on the red carpet can tend to be a bit boring, as it is considered the "safe" option.
Tilda Swinton on armed Lanvin dress, Hilary Swank embellished Versace dress and and Kristin Chenoweth rose underly Armani Prive dresses were not "safe"options, but Ellen Page and Lauren Linney's were.

Despite the rain, most of the women on the red carpet went strapless at the Oscars.
Kristin Chenoweth was by far my favourite with the sexy sweetheart neckline, but Cameron Diaz, Keisha Whitaker, Penelople Cruz and Renee Zellweger all looked amazing.

Best Dressed/Best Haute Couture Award
This ivory mermaid-like Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2008 Couture gown on Marion Cotillard was simply stunning.
I loved the a fishtail hem and the scale-esqe embroidery on the whole gown.
Marion won the Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.
Her speech was so wonderfully heart-warming, that it brought a small tear to my eye.
Best Red Award
