Tuleh’s Fall 2008 line was in keeping with what critics have been saying about the rest of the Fall 2008 collections (pre-Fall and otherwise); there is a distinct look backwards to the 1940s-60s with regards to tailoring and restrained femininity. Then there is a distinctly modern twist. That said, Tuleh was generally successful in their take on this season’s overarching trend.
Luxe metallics and animal prints, paired with knee-high suede stiletto boots in brilliant shades, made ...

Even the name Twinkle by Wenlan makes you smile, so it is difficult to be displeased with the designer’s latest outing. True, it wasn’t groundbreaking, but the label is known for its fun, youthful designs as opposed to plowing into new fashion territory. Simply put, you won’t find a power suit here, or a high-fashion gown. Instead, Wenlan hits a sweet note in between with a mix of wearable dresses and separates.
The Fall 2008 line ...

Ahh, Fashion Week. While many designers are familiar faces in the tents at Bryant Park, there are some who have never before displayed their work in such a high-profile setting. This is especially true of the Academy of Art University show, which showcases the creations of select recent graduates (a distinction that no other fashion school can claim). The excitement in the tent was palpable as the students’ friends and family came to cheer on these newly-minted ...

Okay, so the words “Fashion Week” are on all of our tongues and in every fashion-related publication. Normally being assaulted with the phrase this much drives me crazy, and in the past, it has. This year, however, the words are sweet music to my ears because for the first time ever, I will be one of the lucky ladies looking at the runway in person.
Last year, I saw Agyness Deyn buying coffee at some ...

The pre-fall shows are almost unfair " they hint at what our favourite fashion names are going to offer, but make us wait until Fashion Week arrives several weeks later to provide us with a complete and satisfying picture. That said, the pre-fall collections get me through many a dreary January day.
The bright colours at Chloé piqued my interest (especially after the pretty but blah-after-awhile palette that had a stranglehold on the spring 2008 shows), as did ...

Remember the sequence in Clueless where Alicia Silverstone’s character bemoans the fashion choices of the males of her generation? As she decries their “baggy jeans and backward caps”, an image of guys walking down the sidewalk wearing said jeans and caps flashes across the screen. Fortunately, fashion for men has come a long way. No longer exclusively the territory of wealthy Europeans, male models, and select other men, the “metrosexual” movement has made it acceptable for guys ...

High Street fashion has done it again, using designer duds as inspiration for their own more affordable, yet no less fashion-forward, lines. This time our beloved Topshop has created the Splatter Top - their own version of the Yves St Laurent Paint Splattered Tank. Although my budget dictates that I nearly always go High Street instead of high-end, in this case if money were of no concern I’d opt for the latter.
The YSL piece ...

It’s easy to dismiss models as a pretty face and nothing more. Their job is to look good. And though Tyra may try to convince the general public that good models have an A+ personality to go along with their A+ looks, it’s easy to forget when faced with Daria’s striking cheekbones, Jessica’s stunning eyes and Chanel Iman’s perfect lips peering up at you from the pages of magazines.
However, many models are as accomplished as they are ...

It seems impossible that there was a time when computers–let alone email–were unheard of, given our current dependence on both types of technology. Long gone are the days when you left the office and your life was your own. Most of us have reconciled ourselves to the fact that this is no longer the case with the prevalence of Blackberries and iPhones.
Although incredibly useful, we’ve all had moments where we’d like nothing more than to toss ...

How many times have you been meandering through shops by yourself, looking for a dress for a special occasion, only to be torn between two or three? German designer Bernadett Penkov (of penkov) has brilliantly solved this problem through the usage of something called QR code.
Penkov will debut her usage of the technology at Berlin Fashion Week in conjunction with firm Pixelpark. All you need to do is snap a photo of the special barcode ...

1. The models are too thin. Wait, are they? Spain and Milan ban “too-thin” models after two beauties die from anorexia. New York fashion week adopts guidelines that say a lot and accomplish nothing, with the most frail models simply disappearing from the NYC shows for that season.
2. America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway, still as amazing as ever!
3. Plaid: proving that with the right accessories and in the right materials, this print (in ...

There is a reason why some looks are labeled “classic”; their value is tried and true and is always a perfect fit because the original can’t be improved upon. It’s not unlike your favourite pair of sweatpants"they may be totally unfit to wear in public but they can’t be beat for their comfort. For days when you’re looking to be a bit more put-together, the finishing touch might be a black cashmere sweater, pearl earrings, or a swipe ...

Clothing designers collaborating on non-apparel related items is nothing new, but when it comes to gadgets the majority of designers have taken an approach that focuses on protective cases instead of branding the product itself. A notable exception would be the D&G collaboration with Motorola that produced the golden Razr cell phone, but since only 1,000 were made it may prove a bit difficult to track one down.
Taking a less exclusive approach, Vivienne Tam is the latest designer to ...
