Outfit pick a dichroic look

Outfit pick a dichroic look

I've always loved dichroic glass pendants, and when I saw Topshop's Giles-esque skirt, it really reminded me of the patterns you find in the fused glass charms. There was really only one thing for it. Outfit time! The necklace and skirt match perfectly, so I've tried to keep the rest of the outfit simple and a bit retro. Substitute purple tights for the grey if you want to make it a bit bolder!

Gossip Girl finally makes it to UK television. Was it worth the wait?

Gossip Girl finally makes it to UK television. Was it worth the wait?

I remember reading Cecily von Ziegesar's first Gossip Girl novel years ago and likening it to the film Cruel Intentions. The much-hyped TV show, which finally started last night on ITV 2, seems to have a lot more in common with The O.C than the Sarah Michelle Gellar flick, however. It's glossier, brighter and far less sinister than I expected it to be...after all, who can really truly believe a character who insists on wearing alice bands so often is ...

Style This Week Two Results!

Style This Week Two Results!

The Easter break and the fact I'm guest editing two blogs this week means I'm a bit behind on Style This. But I think the results are worth it this week. I love the risks that some of you have taken when creating an outfit around French Connection's paint splattered skirt. Hayley's use of a fab Matthew Williamson top really grabbed my attention in particular. Nice work as always, guys! Stay tuned for the next challenge!

Spring Summer 08 trends Romance on the Catwalk

Dipping your toes into the waters of the romance trend doesn't necessarily mean you have to cover yourself in fluffy pink frills, but as the above pictures prove, you can do if you want! Over-the-top femininity and romantic ruffles were all over the catwalks...

Battle of the cape crusaders - Kate Moss vs Jasmine Guinness

Battle of the cape crusaders - Kate Moss vs Jasmine Guinness

As part of her latest collection for Topshop, Kate Moss is peddling a bead and sequin cape for £80. Like much of the range, it's based on something she wore in the past - in this case it's the sequin cape she wore to her 30th Birthday party. Thing is, another fashionable celeb designer got there first. Jasmine Guinness created a very similar piece for her Oli Fusion collection, and at £17 in the sale, it's a ...

Debenhams Sale Begins

Debenhams Sale Begins

Ah, the Debenhams sale. I do love it. I don't love the fact the website invariably crashes just as I've managed to find the one Matthew Williamson Butterfly bikini they have in my size (or that the skirt I've had my eye on is still full price) but aside from that, it's always packed full of good finds...

Spring Summer 08 trends Safari shorts on the high street

Spring Summer 08 trends Safari shorts on the high street

Today is unofficial 'Safari day' at CQ thanks to our current trend rundown, and after bringing you news that safari shorts are the new leggings / city shorts / skinny jeans / whatever else you wear on your bottom half it only seemed fair to bring you some pairs you might actually be able to afford...

Spring Summer 08 trends Safari, the catwalk looks

Spring Summer 08 trends Safari, the catwalk looks

Much like its nautical sister, the safari trend has a habit of showing its face at this time of year. A stalwart of designers creating looks for more mature women, the look has been sexed up for a younger market this season as designers like Proenza Schouler and Preen have added their unique touches to the look. Your standard basic is a pair of safari shorts, which are slouchier than the city shorts of old, thus bit easier to wear ...

Spring Summer 08 trends Floral, the high street looks

Spring Summer 08 trends Floral, the high street looks

Isabelle's already shown you catwalk and designer takes on this season's floral trend, but it's up to me to raid the high street for affordable options. The hardest job has been picking which ones to feature, but I think I've bought you a good sample with these options. From graphic and structured at French Connection to girly and ethereal at Oasis, the high street have got florals covered...

Modernising an old fashioned piece

Modernising an old fashioned piece

Miss Selfridge's double-frilled belted jacket (£40) appealed to the old lady in me. It's a really pretty take on what can be quite a dull classic, but because of the fussiness, dressing it up in a modern way is a challenge. I could steal Isabelle's top styling tip and add a flash of bold colour (a purple bag here, some mustard tights there) but instead decided to stick to my failsafe instead - seamed tights, killer heels and a ...
