Weekend update

Weekend update

On Saturday, I was very efficient. I got up rather earlier than I would have liked because Tabitha (the cat) woke me at 3:45am. What the hell was she thinking? I had to shut her in the bathroom so I could get some sleep. Still, I was up before 8am.

In the morning, I tidied the house, folded some laundry and ate breakfast. At 12:30 I walked myself to the neighborhood yoga studio for a free ...

“The Best Thing You Ever Did”

Artichoke Panzanella

Fred was moved to declare "Zeez eez ze best ting you eveur did" when I first made him this dish about a month and a half ago. I stared at him agog. "The best thing I ever did?" I nervously responded, my mind flashing with mini movies of all the other wonderful things ...

Pappa al Pomodoro: Recipe

Tuscans are infamous for being stingy. But when it comes to food that's not necessarily a bad thing. They are experts at cooking beans and even make a delicious soup called "cooked water" that is chock full of vegetables and topped with an egg. While living in Florence, I learned to make pappa al pomodoro, a typically Tuscan version of comfort food on the cheap. Thanks to Derrick over at Obsession with Food for hosting ...

Misty, Aqua-Netted Memories

Misty, Aqua-Netted Memories

I was reading The Glitterati's review of Demeter Pick-Me-Up Spray in Laundromat over at her blog, Brain Spam, and it brought back some very strange memories.

In college I had the worst crush on this guy. He wasn't the hottest guy, wasn't overly charming, wasn't overly social, either. In fact, he was one of those aloof hipster loners. Nevertheless, I had a crush on him, and I think it was because I saw it as a ...

Eye care in summer

Like all great things, the powerful and resourceful energy of the sun too has a flip side to it. The ultraviolet (UV) rays emitted from the sun could cause serious damage to the human eye, with maladies ranging from cataracts, cancer of the eye-lids, macular degeneration, corneal burns, benign growths and solar retinopathy. Harmful as they are, UV rays are even more intense during the hot summer

I’m going with Bunny to babysit

I'm going with Bunny to babysit Deniece and Denephew tonight, so I'm writing this post on Sunday morning.

The concert from last night was enjoyable. I've always enjoyed the sound of the male a cappella choir. The group has improved in sound quality since I was part of it 13 to 16 years ago, and we weren't anything to ignore then. The concert was brief, less than two hours including

Beauty On The Road (Again)

Beauty On The Road (Again)

Yes, friends, I am back on the road!

This time, my travels have brought me to Florida for a conference. Picked up a little kit on the plane, with a mini Bliss Lemon & Sage Body Butter and other Bliss goodies. Apparently these are only supposed to be on LA-NYC flights, but someone must have left one behind!

It is a gray day here in Florida - I flew down half a day early in the hopes of taking advantage ...

Another photo shoot in NY

Another photo shoot in NY

God I love my job. Truly I do!
I sometimes have to sit back and think exactly what about it that I love so much.

Take yesterday's photo shoot.

Model was late (her agent gave wrong location, ah, we're in Brooklyn shooting, not Manhattan), she was cold, allergy sniffling, and just all around not happy to be there. After awhile she saw what we wanted to create on this photo shoot and she turned into a real ...

Alisa’s Alameda Appearance

(Me and a few fashionable women who came to my Alameda reading)

The reading in Alameda was AMAZING. I was so excited to learn that more than half the women who came were members of my yahoo group. The pink-and-black color coordination of everyone's outfits was completely coincidental. Cool, eh?

Alameda is charming. What a lovely town. A wonderful moment came when an old friend of my dad's, Saul
