See, I did get something accomplished today. I also went through the mail, watched tv, and ordered groceries online (free delivery!).

I still have to do laundry. Sigh.

Green!
Celebrate the beginning of Spring, the rains have made vegetation vibrant and green, so it’s time to give it your best shot. Get out those cameras and celebrate the most luscious of colours…

Today marks the launch of the fourth round of mine and Andrew’s food/wine photography club challenge, , for food bloggers and food lovers. This month’s theme gives you the opportunity to snap anything and everything food in shades from drab olive to bright Chartreuse.

Participants are invited to join our special Foodography 4 Flickr Group where photographs on the Green theme will be collected over the next six weeks for an automized roundup.

Here are the guidelines:

- Only pictures with a food related green theme should be added to : we will remove those that are not.

- You can’t cheat like I did in the collage above, only pictures taken specifically for this challenge will be accepted. Any images taken or loaded to Flickr before April 1st 2006 will be deleted.

- Only three entries per person please. Edit your entries before you submit and choose to showcase just your three favourites on the subject. The challenge is open til mid May so there is plenty of time to experiment and play with the theme before uploading your top three images.

is generally open to constructive critique, to help us improve our food and drink photography skills.

- If you do not wish your entry to receive a critique enter NO CRITIQUE in the description. Otherwise, by default, you should expect critique from fellow members.

- If you are looking for critique, please initiate discussion about your own entry by adding your critique, to your submission. Outline what you like about your picture, what you were trying to achieve, what you think works and where you think there are areas for improvement.

- The challenge is to take a picture on a theme, not to pick one from an archive.

- was created for food bloggers but anyone who is into the idea is welcome to join in.

Have fun!

Foodography 2 - Dairy
Foodography 3 - Tools of the Trade (open to submissions for another 2 weeks)

PS I would like to apologize to my regular readers for my lack of posting recently. Unfortunately my work hours have sky rocketed and I am currently working six day weeks and evening overtime which leaves me sparse time for anything else, let alone blogging. For anyone who is interested, I am still losing weight, albeit slowly. We are going away this weekend, our first whole 2 days off work together this year. Yes you heard correctly. After that we won’t be coming up for air again until June. In the meantime, I promise to try and dip into Becks & Posh every now again with a foodie update for you all. I hope to collect some good dining material over the next couple of days. And whatever happens, I won’t miss What’s For Pud. I have already started some successful experiments with homemade jaffa Cakes. So, until some time in June, when I hope to return to more regular blogging, I thank you for your patience…

Elke’s Makeup Tips

There’s nothing cooler than makeup tips. Because I’m a firm believer in that it’s not the product you’re using, but HOW you’re using it. You see, I’m one of those makeup artists that gets all excited about technique and the finished product. To me it’s all about beauty.

There are 4 types of makeup artists: What type are you?

1. The transformer.

The late Kevyn Aucoin was the ultimate transformer. He lived to take a face and make it look completely different. Just look at his makeup books. It’s all the about the transformation.

2. The product junkie.

This makeup artist lives for the product. Mac, Bobbie Brown, Nars. Just look into their makeup kit and it’s like looking into the makeup counter of the hot product of the moment.

3. The art.

This makeup artist is all about creating. Pat McGrath comes to mind immediately. It’s about color, and creating a piece of art from your canvas, or in this case, your face. Colors, vivid, bold.

4. It’s all about the technique.

Yep. This is me. It’s all about perfection. The brush, the application, the perfect face. I get all excited about creating the most beautiful, perfect face. I don’t really care what product I’m using. Yes, there are some products out there better than others, but to me, it’s about creating perfect beauty in the end.

Here are some of my fav makeup tips.

Prepare, prepare, prepare.

Want your makeup to go on flawless? Well, the canvas has to be prepared then. And that means moisturizer. The easiest way to get just the right amount on, is by applying it with a makeup sponge. The perfect amount will be evenly applied over the entire face.

The eyes have it.

Want eye shadow to be picture perfect all day? Get in the habit of applying foundation on your eyelids only first. Then apply your eye shadows. When done, lightly mist water or your Evian bottle mister over eyes to set. Let dry. Then apply the rest of your foundation and makeup as usual. By doing eyes first, you save precious minutes by not having to clean up your fly away eye shadow powders. Or any clean up that you have to do is easy. A Q-tip in moisturizer and fallen eye shadows sweep away.

Let’s Cover Up.

Want perfect coverage? Apply foundation first and then your concealer. Foundation will hide about 75% of all the discolorations you see on a bare face. Then just go in with concealers on the most obvious. You save time and product this way. Also, forget about finding the perfect concealer shade. It doesn’t exist. But you can make it. Just apply a dab of your foundation into your concealer before you apply. Viola. The perfect shade for you.

Blushing

Blush is a sure fire way to look 5 years younger, instantly. How? With the right color. Look for the most natural flush color you can find. Trick: Apply blush on the inside of your wrist. If it looks natural here, it will look natural on your cheeks.

Eyebrows give expression.

Make sure yours say the right thing. Eyebrow powder should be 1-2 shades lighter than your hair color. The same shade as your hair can look too overpowering on a face and darker than your hair color is just too severe.

Lash Curling - make it an essential.

Nothing opens up eyes more than curling the eyelashes. Make it easy by curling at the base of the lashes, hold for 10 seconds, walk 1/2 way out, and then curl for 10 seconds more. Always curl on clean lashes.

Mascara Basics

Want model length lashes? Do what the pros do. Apply mascara to the tops of the lashes as well as the underneath. Look down into your mirror, and brush your mascara wand on the upper side of your lashes…then look up and brush through again on the bottom side.

Lips 101

Want a perfect lip line? Use your light brown eyebrow pencil to line lips. Apply a bit more on the inside corners of the lip on both top and bottom to create a depth on the outside of the lips. Apply your lipstick or gloss over. You’ve just created a 3-d effect lip. Larger, brighter, fuller, without doing the dreaded ‘clown’ mouth.

I’m sick!

Oh joy. I get to stay home today, sick. Sick! I’m not surprised. I felt it coming on, but all the traveling and sleepiness disguised the symptoms. Everyone I saw in Israel was sick–my nephew, his bride, several small children and Spesh. It’s not the end of the world. I don’t have a fever, but I am stumbling around the house slightly off balance. I have a sore throat, headache and runny

April is the coolest month

T.S. Eliot wrote some prime stuff, but he totally lost me with this assertion:

April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

All that breeding, mixing, and stirring is just fine with me. And with April’s arrival, the daffodils in my front garden will finally awaken and begin their delightful annual dance, prompting me to go around chanting a certain poem by William Wordsworth.

Have you ever tried writing a poem? Anyone can do it, as I discovered to my delight a year ago this week, when I wrote one quite by accident. Like writing fiction, no special talent is required for you to enjoy the process, and if the results please you, who’s to say that what you’re writing isn’t any good?

April is National Poetry Month. So if there are any poems in you, why not think about setting them free?
