“No honey, you look great!” – Men’s Point of View

Am I fat?” Don’t even start with me. I thought that dreadful lose-lose question was a part of history! “Do these jeans make my butt look big?” – “No honey, your butt makes those pants look big”. Why do women Continue reading ‘“No honey, you look great!” – Men’s Point of View’

My favorite makeup tips.

My favorite makeup tips.

Someone asked me what my all-time favorite makeup tips were that I used on models for photo shoots. Here are a few of my favs that I picked up or discovered on my own:

1. Use mascara as liquid eyeliner

Using a fine eyeliner brush or a small angle eyebrow brush, apply mascara along the top lashes. It’s easier to apply, dries and lasts all day long. And if you make a mistake while applying, easy. Just let it dry, and then with a dry Q-tip, rub off your mistake easily and try again. Also, if you’re going to cry anytime soon, use the waterproof mascara.

2. Custom lipgloss

Tired, bored of the lip gloss colors you have? Make your own like we do. Grab that super cool multi fauceted eyeshadow powder, apply on lips, apply your clear lip gloss on top. Vioila. It’s a brand new shade (and day!)

3. Amazing Lashes

Always on the lookout for that perfect mascara, I think I finally found it. Except it’s not one, but two. Use two different mascaras for each coat and you’ll get fantastic looking lashes every time. Don’t ask me why, but it works.

4. And Thicker Lashes

Turn a weak, thin mascara into a lash dynamo. Just add powder. Between mascara coats, dust a light coat of loose powder with your fingertip or a Q-tip onto your lashes, and apply your 2nd mascara coat. Instant thick lashes regardless of what type of mascara it was.

5. Long lasting foundation

Tired of your foundation disappearing on you? Had it with shiny breakthroughs just minutes into your day? Don’t blame your skin, blame the foundation. The culprit just might be a tad too much oil in your base. But don’t toss it. Apply your foundation as always, and maybe just a tad bit more. Then with a clean kleenex folded into squares, lightly press into your skin. You’ll see oil on your kleenex from the foundation, leaving behind just pure pigment on your skin. Results? Perfect coverage foundation that lasts alot longer. Blotting is not just for lipstick you know.

6. Cream blush

Is your favorite cream blush doing a fading number on you? Ah, it’s not the blush, but your skin that’s the culprit. If your skin type is on the dry side, or it’s a cold day outside, you skin grabs moisture where ever it can: i.e. your cream blush. Just a few hours later and you’re left with just a hint of the color that you applied. Fix it by applying a good facial moisturizer in your morning routine, or apply a light layer of vasaline or oil (virgin olive oil works great) on cheeks first. Moisture (as in your cream blush) sticks to moisture, so give it some first, for a long lasting blush.

    Makeup Q & A

    Foto: Flare.com

    Legal Chick asks:

“My biggest problem is eyeliner. I love the look when I have a makeup artist do it, but I just can’t seem to do it without it being way to much.”

    Hmmm,

Sounds like maybe the tools aren’t quite right? Even the right pencil is important.
Let’s see if we can figure this one out.

Pencils: The easiest by far to get a straight line, but even they can smear and melt, making your perfect eyes look smeary and smudgy. Try this trick: Take your pencil in question and run a thin line going between your thumb and forefinger, you know in that little v shape between your fingers? Does the pencil draw on smooth? Does it melt on? Does it draw on hard or h dley at all? You want the pencil that draws on smooth and doesn’t melt into the skin right away.

Next, sharpen your pencil. The sharper the pencil, the smoother and cleaner the line. Then, right above the lashes, lightly trace a thin line. Don’t press and don’t try to draw the line perfect. Just lightly trace. Does it look right? Then do a few more passes with the pencil. You’ll be able to build up and get the line exactly how you want it. As long as you don’t try to do it in one line, you’ll have much better results.

Eyeshadow: Now if you’re trying to draw a line with eyeshadow (either wet or dry), the trick is in getting the right brush. You want the tiniest, thinest little angle brush you can find. Not the super stiff hard one, the soft taklon or soft bristles and a super short thin cut line. The brush is the trick here. Lightly pick up the shadow dry. If you’re picking up the shadow wet, the trick is to lightly mist your brush first (not the pan, you’ll end up drenching and possibly ruining your pretty eyeshadow), and then brush the wet brush on the shadow. Keep brushing until the wetness on the shadow pan disappears. You’ll have the perfect consistency for applying it wet. If you apply too quickly, you’re drawing water on. Too hard to do. Then, same thing. Lightly trace a few lines above the lashes until you get the location and thickness the way you want.

Trick: It’s never in one stroke. Trace and build up to get the line you want.

    REVIEW: Inky Loves Nature

Well, after catching a fierce cold after doing a old nighter photo shoot, and days in bed sick (cough cough!) I decided to treat myself a little and see if I could get myself back amongst the land of the living. I thought a little beauty R&R would do me some good.

Hmm, I’ll have some german chocolate cake please!

Sounds good huh? Well, it’s not really what you think.
    I decided on some body & bath R & R.

Enters Inky Loves Nature’s “Warrior Queen Cleanser”. At first, it took me awhile to figure out what cleanser this was. Small print on the hang tag finally told me it was “Peppermint Dark Chocolate” only after I poured out the cleanser. A thick dark chocolate brown cleanser left me a little startled and well, I won’t tell you what I was thinking. The chocolatey scent saved the day. Detergent free, this super light foam (don’t expect much lather) left my skin soft and smelling like chocolate heaven with it’s 100% Vegan and with ingredients listed as: Coconut milk, dark chocolate extract, green tea extract, egyptian peppermint and chocolate aroma.

Well, a girl’s just gotta be feeling a little better after that.

Then came the Ginger Sweet Coconut “Magical Melanin Moisturizer”. This stuff is so thick, I couldn’t get anything to come out of the pump, and squeezing it through the open bottle was like squeezing out cookie dough. Super thick, and super organic. Organic oats, coconut milk, coconut extract, maple extract and ginger gets skin super smooth, yet slippery which took a long time to sink into the skin.

Though the little glitzes (small print and somewhat unappealing look and thickness of the products) made me hesitant, the scent and super natural concepts of Leesah B. (it’s creator) leave me applauding. Where else will you find a brand whose motto is:
NO synthetic colors, DEAs, SLS, Sulfates, Urea, Mineral Oil, Petroleum, Parabens or Formaldehyde donars. And ALL of her products are totally committed to being 100% exclusively certified Vegan (NO animal derived ingredients -this includes NO Honey , Silk or Beeswax) and she is proud to be a 100% Black owned (BOCC), 100% woman owned and 100% hands on company. She donates 1% of her annual net revenue to support small African communities, the Environment and helping her animal friends. This means when you buy an inky product, you contribute too. And all Inky Loves Nature products are 100% guaranteed.

    Ya just gotta love that!
