I am probably not the first one to admit this and I’m definitely not going to be the last but sometimes I find myself so stressed out with work! And it doesn’t matter what field you are in. For example, I work from home (I’m a freelance writer, mother and wife) and I still find that work can be stressful at times. There are deadlines that need to be met, just like with any job. And the stress of it all can get to the best of us. Are you looking to eliminate stress at work? Below, I have 13 ways to do just that…
13. Making new friends

Getting out and making new friends is a great way to eliminate stress at work. And if you are naturally social, this should come easily. The important thing here is to make sure your new friends are not people you work with. The last thing you need is work being brought up into the conversation when you are having a good time.

12. Spending time with old friends

As you move on from college to work, it’s easy to move on from old friends to new. And while there’s nothing wrong with making new friends, I think it’s important to find time to spend with old friends. There’s nothing like reminiscing about the good old days to forget all about work issues. My college gang and I make sure we atleast catch up twice a month if not more. It is truly rejuvenating!

11. Exercising

I have found that exercising is a great way to eliminate stress! And sure a lot of us have that age old excuse of “Oh! But I don’t have time” but you know if you really wanted to, you would find the time. When I , I do not think about work. I recommend you do the same thing. You will get so involved in your workout that you will forget all about the stressful day you had. Sounds good, doesn’t it? You will surely benefit with this one.

Great tips Melanie! I work from home and my only stress is my little brother :))
hahaha Tavia,
now isn’t that a cute little stress to have!
I wish I can have sex in office… BUT! I don think I can do any of these IN office… So still trying to figure how can I eliminate stress at work.
Hey Zennmaster,
Sure we could all wish for the impossible (or are those really impossible?).. but the point here is, to eliminate stress at work, you don’t necessarily need to have stress-busters AT work. It could be throughout your entire day. Though one thing an ex-colleague of mine used to do – hung a hoop over the trash can in his cubicle and would shoot trash through it instead of just throwing it in. Small things help too!
Great suggestions!
I found out that different things work for me for different type of stress.
If I am mad at my husband….shopping really helps me out.
I’m not one of the lucky ones who work from home, so if I am under too much pressure at work, I go for a short walk at lunch.
If my whole work day was very stressful, to the point that I wish I did not have to come back the next day, I love spending time with my granddaughter, which works like magic.
Vacations help, but then when I get back to the office, I find my work to be so far behind that after a while I feel like I really need another vacation…
Hey SG,
I think ‘the grass is greener on the other side’ couldn’t be truer about the work-at-home or not issue. Trust me, working at home is not all that it is cut out to be! and hahaha at the vacations bit. Wouldn’t it be awesome btw if we had just a 4 day week with a 3 day weekend?? (just something drunk friends & me were discussing recently)
I don’t have a 4-legged friend :(
My tried and tested methods are shopping, sewing, yoga, and chilling with friends.
extremely great tips. I need to do all of them. Just yesterday my brother was whining why do I have boxes of bubble wraps still sitting around (they came with all the beauty products I have been ordering online recently) I told him I am saving it for stressful moments.
I think I have a big problem with living in the present. I like making plans. I am constantly looking forward to the future and forget all about present.
Fatima hun, making plans for the future is always good, but you can’t just rely on your plans to execute themselves.. you’ve gotta act on them! and you let me know if you need any help with your bubble wraps :P
it would be great to add tips for in office chilaxing – something like breathing
What do you do when the Difficult/Negative person in your life is your husband????
Exercise is probably the #1 tip ever!
fantastic for reliving stress and tension!
LOL I just thought of this.. what if someone constantly stresses out about doing exercise to lower their stress level? =P
hahahaha Amy,
that sounds like me!! I do stress so much about how i’m not getting enough exercise that I think i’m going to need to exercise more to get rid of the stress.. oohh noo – i’m not getting enough exercise!!!
I grew up near the beach and use to love walking along the water edge with my dog – sadly there are no beaches in London. But I do find time to go for hikes or walks in a park so i have some connection to nature.
Hey Linda,
I feel your pain. Even though I’d love to walk, sadly i’m in a city where due to the climate and the pollution, walking really is not a good option unless you head to a park or a nature trail of some sort!
Exersising and spending time with friends are the best remedies! :)
Totally agree Xannyyy,
somehow my friends are the cure to all of my issues!
Sheila, the four day week sounds great, even if I had to work 10 hours each day, it would be great, but unfortunately I do not see that in my near future.
Jessica, hopefully you and your husband find your middle ground to lessen the stress. It is not good to have too much stress in a marriage. Spouses supposed to be best friends. I would suggest to sit down together, and write down all the positive and negative things about each other. Then learn to appreciate the positive traits in each other, and grow your relationship based on these traits, rather than dwell on the negative.
SG,
that sounds like great advice. My best friend used to make me do that for every tough spot that i got in (the list) – and it does really help. and Jessica, I really do hope that this helps you too!
and hey SG, wait till I’m the Queen of the world… we’ll all have 4 day weeks.. (oh wait, i can have just a 2 day week since i’m the Queen!! :P )
These are really good tips. I’ve found that listening to good music helps to relieve work stress. I usually pop in earphones while I’m at work and listen to my favorite artists while updating reports and answering emails, it helps to tune out the madness!
hey hhm,
that sounds like a good idea. And as long as you are working, i’m sure the bosses won’t have an issue as long as you’re working while you’ve got your mp3s playing!
This is great points.. if im stressed out at work then i always give my friends a call and we have a catch up over a few bottles of wine and a take away or spend the day spending our hard earned money in the shops and i always come away from it forgetting what im stressing about..
I also find that a lovely hot bath with bubbles a few candles and my favourite playlist on my iPod relaxes me after a stresful day in the office.
hey Cara,
i love having a glass of wine too with my bath if i really want to relax…! (i swear i’m not a drunk!)
Dancing and singing are great stress relievers for me :) I am still trying to learn this dance.

Can you imagine how stress free you would be after doing this dance :P Might help your coworkers too!
Hahahahahha September!!!
You find the strangest videos on Youtube don’t ya. This one is so damn funny! I’m sooo sharing it with my Twitter buddies :D
