10 Things about Cholesterol You Should Know …

Are you concerned about your health and want to understand your cholesterol? Then you have come to the right blog as I am going to tell you some things about cholesterol you should know. Some of these things you may already know, but some you may not. Cholesterol is something that is necessary for our bodies to function. Did you know that one? I have done a lot of research on cholesterol and the things you should know and I would like to share them with you.

10. 80 Percent of the Cholesterol in Our Body is Manufactured by the Liver

Did you know that about eighty percent of the cholesterol in our body is manufactured by the liver? The other twenty percent of the cholesterol will come from the foods that you consume.

9. A Diet High in Cholesterol Can Wreck Havoc

If you consume a diet that is high in cholesterol, it could cause your body to take in too much cholesterol, which will result in high levels of blood cholesterol and that is not healthy. When it gets too high, the arteries can become clogged and it can increase the risk of coronary heart disease.

8. What is Cholesterol?

Many may not understand what cholesterol is. It is a waxy substance in the body that is made by the liver. It forms in every part of the cell.

    Dear Melanie,
your cholesterol article alarmed me. Obviously a well meaning attempt, how ever there are many errors in it that need to be corrected. First to start with a thorough research needs to be undertaken to insure awareness what is known about cholesterol, not only the prevailing propaganda the web is awash with. Paragraph 9. the error is that it is not cholesterol what makes havoc. The lipid hypothesis has been discredited some time ago. Cholesterol is innocent. Further more cholesterol levels have nothing to do with clogged arteries. Consider people with perfect (arbitrarily set levels of 4) die of stroke and heart attacks with occluded arteries. How came? Microscopic and laboratory analysis of plaques revealed many other components, cholesterol only one of them. Do investigate how it got there and why? You will learn something. Paragraph 6. nothing to do with surplus. (Refer to paragraph 9). It is to do with reasons for levels increase. Paragraph 5. It is like saying headaches are dangerous and ignoring the axe embedded in the head. (Refer to paragraph 6). Paragraph 1. true, how ever ignores the very beginning of the problem: the initial injury to the lumen by chemical, microbial, metabolic factors that provoke sub-clinical inflammation that sets in motion the cascade of events ending in atherosclerosis. I alert you to a website that will surprise and educate you. The site is:

I have to also second some of Uncle Joe’s points. When Uffe Ravnskov, MD PhD actually went back and looked at the peer-reviewed medical literature he found 38 cohort studies where people with higher cholesterol on average lived longer and no published studies showing the converse. Not a bad end-point to look at. Of course, this still leaves out the whole issue of statin side effects. Weren’t they saying just a couple weeks back that statins cured swine flu? Now they even want to give them to healthy people with normal cholesterol. This is embarrassing, just creepy drug pushers. 20 Billion in yearly sales though. If you care to read up on cholesterol and overall mortality there is an introductory write-up here http://healthjournalclub.blogspot.com/2009/10/do-people-with-high-cholesterol-live.html#more

If you have sky-high cholesterol, it may be partly genetic. But for some families, it’s inevitable that LDL, or bad cholesterol, will be in the unhealthy zone. You should have a regular cholesterol checkup.
